Goorkhnath, a disciple of Muchendranath, who was himself a votary of the sun, visiting Nepaul, and not receiving from its inhabitants those marks of reverence to which he considered his sacred character entitled, resented this treatment by fixing himself in a particular spot, where he remained immovable during a period of twelve years.

Matsyendranath alias Luipa: The Kaibarta Siddha - Father of Assamese Language and Philosophy.
Who wrote the first letter of the Assamese language? In answer to this question, two great scholars of Assam, Dr. Maheswar Neog and Dr. Jatindra Kumar Borgohain, have taken the name of one man. His name is Matsyendranath. He is also called Minanath, Minapa, Luipa.
*Information from Dr. Maheswar Neog*
Dr. Neog wrote on the twelfth page of 'Asamiya Sahityar Ruprekha', that from Tibetan writings, one of the Siddhas, Minanath, has been identified as a man from Kamarupa.
And in the same book, from page 39 to 41, he writes, Minanath is conceived in this book in a different thought as a Kaibarta of Kamarupa. Minanath propagated the Yogini Kaula cult.
That is, Minanath was a Kaibarta from Kamarupa and he was the Guru of the Yogini Kaula cult.
*Detailed information from Dr. Jatindra Kumar Borgohain, Assam's Cultural History, Fifth Chapter, Fifth Part, Matsyendranath Shiva and Buddha Avalokiteshvara,*
Borgohain sir writes at the beginning of this chapter in his book, the Nath Siddha Purusha Matsyendranath or Minanath was a Siddha Purusha of ancient Kamarupa. Some call Minanath as Luipada.
After that, sir writes a very important thing. He writes, although some want to say that this Luipada or Matsyendranath was not from Kamarupa, apart from the historians of Assam, famous historians have also discussed the relationship of Matsyendranath with Kamarupa.
After this, sir gives the proof of Colonel Kirkpatrick. From the description that Kirkpatrick gave of the Matsyendranath temple in Nepal after visiting Nepal in 1793, it can be easily inferred that before modern historians distorted it, Matsyendranath associated with this temple in Nepal was called as from Kamarupa.
In Kirkpatrick's words, "Goorkhnath, a disciple of Muchendranath, who was himself a votary of the sun, visiting Nepaul, and not receiving from its inhabitants those marks of reverence to which he considered his sacred character entitled, resented this treatment by fixing himself in a particular spot, where he remained immovable during a period of twelve years."
What does this story mean? Gorakshanath was a disciple of Matsyendranath. Because Guru Matsyendranath was not respected in Nepal, disciple Gorakshanath did penance for twelve years and caused drought in Nepal. It was only after bringing Matsyendranath from Kamarupa and establishing him in Nepal that it rained. This story is still prevalent in Nepal today.
Then Borgohain sir writes, the tantric Siddha Purusha Matsyendra Nath or Min Nath is said to be the initiator of Guru and Yogini Sahacharya. The influence of these three Siddhas, Luipada or Min Nath, Sabarapa and Kanhapa, in the development of tantric religion in ancient Kamarupa and in the coordination of Shaiva and Siddha doctrines was immense.
Sir also writes that how close the relationship of Tantra with Kamarupa was is given by the Tantras themselves. The relationship that Assam and Pragjyotishpur had with Nalanda need not be repeated. After the death of Harshavardhana, Bhaskar Varman indirectly helped the kings of Tibet and China.
At the end of the chapter, sir emphasizes that the name Matsyendranath itself is the union of Hindu Shiva and Buddhist Avalokiteshvara. Hindu Nath Yogis call him Adinath Shiva. Buddhists call him Avalokiteshvara, the form of Buddha's compassion. In Patan, Nepal, even today, in his chariot festival, both Hindus and Buddhists pull the chariot together. Such a union was possible only in Kamarupa. Kamarupa was the land of Tantra. Here, Hindu Shakti worship and Buddhist Mahayana Tantra merged together.
The first verse written by Luipa or Minanath is 'Ka a Tarubara Pancha Bi Dala'. This Charyapada is the first literary specimen of Pre-Assamese as mentioned in Asamiya Sahityar Ruprekha. Words like Ka a, Pancha, Chanchala of this language are still in Assamese in the same way.
Therefore, the first poet of the Assamese language was a Kaibarta. The first Guru of the Assamese language was a Kaibarta. The propagator of the Yogini Kaula cult was a Kaibarta. The symbol of Hindu-Buddhist unity was a Kaibarta.
Today, when we say Kaibarta, people think only of fishermen. But our history is much bigger. In the hands of the people who cast nets in the heart of the Brahmaputra, the first net of the Assamese language was cast. In that net, crores of Assamese are trapped today.
This glorious history should be known by the people of all Assam. If anyone has any doubts, they will get to know all the things in more detail if they read the books of Dr. Maheswar Neog sir and Dr. Jatindranath Borgohain sir.
*The Charyapadas written by him:-*
The biggest proof of the above is the Charyapada written by him. The Charyapada manuscript was recovered by Mahamahopadhyay Haraprasad Shastri from the Royal Court of Nepal in 1907. There were a total of 50 verses in it. Of these, verses No. 1 and No. 29 were written by Luipa i.e. Matsyendranath.
Verse No. 1 is the first written poem in the Assamese language.
_Ka a Tarubara Pancha Bi Dala_
_Chanchala Chie Paitho Kala_
_Dita Karia Mahasuha Parimana_
_Lui Bhanai Guru Puchhia Jana_
Meaning - The body is like a tree with five branches. In it, time enters with a fickle mind. Make the mind firm and measure the great happiness. Lui says, ask the Guru and know. Words like Ka a, Pancha, Chanchala of this verse are still in Assamese in the same way.
Verse No. 29
_Bhaba Na Bhavana Na Bhava Na Attha_
_Aisana Sambodhena Kaisa Paiththa_
_Lui Bhanai Taisa Hoi Sahaje Rula_
_Achchhahu Jama Bedha Karanda Batula_
Meaning - It is not being, nor is it non-being. How can one enter into such an address. Lui says the form can be known easily, but searching through scriptures and Vedas will only make you crazy.
These two verses prove that he was not just a Yogi, he was a philosopher poet. His philosophy was Sahajayana - to look at life easily. Apart from this, there are six books in his name in the Tibetan Tengyur - Sri Bhagavad Abhisamaya, Vajrasattva Sadhana, Tattva Svabhava Dohakosha Gitika Drishti, Luhipada Gitika, Sri Chakrasambara Abhisamaya Tika and Buddhoday.
Therefore, a Kaibarta not only wrote the first verse of the Assamese language, but also left behind six Buddhist texts. This glorious history should be known by all the people of Assam.
